Art Class: fundamentals of drawing & painting

This is an 8 week course where we will be covering the fundamentals of drawing and painting and introducing a variety of techniques and materials along the way to help you achieve your full potential as an artist.

What we cover

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

Week 1

Shape and Form: the building blocks of art

Light and Shade: how to create drama

Week 2

Space: grappling with perspective

Week 3

Composition: the elements within a picture: balance, foreground & background, focal point

Week 4

Anatomy and proportion: drawing from the figure: understanding proportion and measurement

How to create texture: using different media to replicate the feel of different surfaces

Week 5

Colour Theory: how colors interact; hues, saturation; how they can be used to create  different moods

Techniques of Painting I:  watercolour and ink, acrylic; demonstration and experiment

Week 6

Techniques of Painting II: egg tempera, oil; demonstration and experiment 

Week 7

Your Choice: start your own painting or large-scale drawing in your chosen medium. Choose your subject and bring some objects/photos/sketches to get you started.

Week 8

Complete your painting

Pop-up exhibition (invite your family friends to admire your work)
